1997 was the beginning of Fernando’s career in construction. Starting out as a painter, he quickly realized that the $14 an hour job wouldn’t cut it for his growing family; he had an expecting wife and already had a newborn son. Wanting to provide all the necessities in life for them, he sought out to learn every skill in construction. With grit and tenacity, he gradually moved up the ranks, eventually branching out to form his own company based on his values of hard work, integrity, and quality (today known as BBC Construction). Fernando believes in improving the construction community through education. Contrary to large construction companies who reduce their workers tasks to a mere few, he makes sure to educate and teach his employees in every job they perform. He has mentored dozens of workers over the past decade and has taught them the lessons and skills that he acquired over time.
At 6, he wanted to go to Harvard and become a doctor who lived happily ever after. At 10, Fernando would start taking him to jobs and teach him the foundations of construction, which is how Brian became aware that his previous dreams of healing people would no longer pan out. Construction and real estate were his newfound loves. He began to take on bigger roles in the company, starting out as a tool assistant, then receiving customer calls, and later proofreading emails. Today, Brian attends the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, oversees and manages the BBC customer service department, and is a real estate investor.
